As a client of Byfields, the protection of your data and personal information is very important to us. 
We have taken another step towards tighter security by implementing an application called “ATO SmartDocs”. This application will enable us to deliver ATO correspondence (such as a notice of assessment) to you digitally and, more importantly, securely.
The email you will soon start to receive from us will look different to the email you would have received in the past so we wanted to give you a heads up that it is not a scam!
Rather than the document being attached in the email, there will be a link to the document instead. For added security, you will also receive an SMS with a security pin which you will need to enter to access the email link.
“Why is my TFN not redacted?”
Access to your document is via a link and SMS security pin. If the email goes astray, the person who receives the email won’t be able to open the document (whereas they would if the document was an attachment).
“Can I save or print the document?”
You certainly can. Once you have opened the document, you will have the ability to save it to your local computer or to cloud storage as well as print a copy.
“What happens if I lose or delete the email?”
Never fear. We can resend the email and generate a new SMS security pin.
“Will I be able to access these documents from my portal account?”
We will upload a copy of the most important ATO documents (like your notice of assessment) to your portal account which you can then access at any time.
“I’ve received an SMS but no email.”
Check your Junk Inbox. It’s recommended that you add the email address to your safe sender list so future emails go straight to your Inbox.
“I received an email but no SMS.”
Give us a call to make sure we have the correct details on our system. You may have also changed your new mobile number so it’s important to let us know so we can update our records. We can then resend the email and generate a new SMS security pin.
With identity theft and online fraud continuing to rise, ATO SmartDocs is another weapon in our fight to protect you and your personal information.
